Mazda has made significant improvements in the 2014 What Car? JD Power customer satisfaction survey, where customers rate the best new cars to own in the UK market.
The manufacturer has climbed 11 places compared to last year in the Overall Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Index to finish ninth overall, beating numerous premium car brands in the process. Compared to all other manufacturers included in the Index, Mazda has made by far and away the greatest improvement compared to its 2013 ranking.
Top Three Positions
Current models from Mazda’s car range also earned top three positions in three categories of this year’s JD Power survey. The Mazda2 for instance placed second in the survey’s small car category. Also, the Mazda MX-5 came second in the Sport category and the Mazda6 family car finished third in the Mid-Size category.
These findings from the survey are based on the opinions of over 15,000 car owners in the UK. Participants rated a total of 109 different car models from over 20 brands operating in the UK market.
Overall customer satisfaction in the JD Power survey is measured in four core categories including ‘Vehicle Appeal’, ‘Ownership Costs’, ‘Service Satisfaction’ and ‘Vehicle Quality and Reliability’.
Within these core categories, in-depth evaluation takes place on a wide range of ownership-related topics ranging from ‘vehicle appeal covering 56 different aspects of the car’ and a report on ‘the owner’s most recent dealer service experience’. Also included is a detailed study of ’90 possible problem areas’.
The Managing Director of Mazda UK, Jeremy Thomson, gave his reaction to Mazda’s gains in the JD Power survey this year. He commented: “Everything we do at Mazda, every convention we challenge, is dedicated to making things better for our customers.
“So we are absolutely delighted to have our unique approach appreciated by such a strong performance of satisfaction from those customers themselves.”
The Mazda cars which all achieved top three category positions remain available in UK showrooms, with the Mazda2 priced from £11,195. A new-generation version of the Mazda2 supermini is expected to be launched in early 2015.
New Generation Mazda MX-5
A new generation version of the Mazda MX-5, meanwhile, is also due to launch in 2015 with the current model remaining on sale for now priced from £18,495.
Both the all-new Mazda2 and the all-new MX-5 will benefit from Mazda’s highly efficient SKYACTIV driving technology. This already features on the current Mazda6 range, which is currently priced from £19,595.
