Mazda MX-5 takes Honest John convertible accolade

The Mazda MX-5 has picked up the Convertible of the Year accolade at the 2014 Honestjohn.co.uk Awards.

This announcement follows similar success for the Mazda MX-5 last year, when it won the Most Popular Roadster accolade from Honestjohn.co.uk.

The Honestjohn.co.uk Awards are unique in that they are allocated to those vehicles which attract the greatest number of page views on the motoring website.

For this year’s awards Honestjohn.co.uk used page view statistics from the last 12 months (April 2013-April 2014) to determine the winner of almost all 14 award categories.

For this year’s Convertible of the Year award it is the iconic MX-5, the world’s best selling two-seater sports car, which comes out on top.

The Editor of Honestjohn.co.uk, Dan Harrison, commented: “The Mazda MX-5 has long been regarded as the most enjoyable and engaging open-top car, building up a huge following over the years,

“So it’s perhaps no surprise to see it coming out as the most popular convertible on honestjohn.co.uk. Its combination of buzzy performance and superb handling, combined with an affordable price tag has clearly found favour among our users.”

The Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK , Jeremy Thomson, reacted: “The Mazda MX-5 is the epitome of our ethos, ‘Challenge Convention To Make Things Better”.

“Launched globally 25 years ago, each generation of the roadster has won Mazda more fans, sales and awards and it is testament to its outstanding balance, agility and timeless styling that it continues to thrive in the UK.”

Pricing for the Mazda MX-5 currently ranges from £18,495 for the soft-top 1.8-litre SE Air Con specification. The range-topping model is the Roadster Coupe 2.0-litre Powershift which is priced at £23,695.
