The Kia Cee’d used for the BBC’s Top Gear, during its ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment’, has been added to a special museum exhibition dedicated to the TV Show.
The Star in a Reasonably Priced car segment has been a regular feature of the Top Gear TV show through each series. During it celebrity guests drive on the Top Gear test track to set their fastest lap possible. These lap times are set in a family hatchback which can be considered ‘reasonably priced’.
Between series 15 to 19, the popular motoring show used a Kia Cee’d hatchback, more specifically an older generation model. Even though the latest generation Cee’d was launched to the UK market back in 2012, the older version continued its role for Top Gear until 2013.
The older but dependable Kia Cee’d has since been retired from the show and has been replaced by the similarly dependable and reasonably priced Vauxhall Astra.
Celebrity guests that drove the Kia Cee’d on Top Gear
Some of the celebrity guests who drove in the ‘Reasonably priced’ Kia Cee’d for Top Gear included Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Ryan Reynolds, Alice Cooper, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
Now the Kia Cee’d used by Top Gear has finally joined the World of Top Gear exhibition located at the Beaulieu National Motor Museum in Hampshire.
Top Gear Museum
The Museum features what is called an ‘Enormodrome’. This is specially designed to replicate the feel and atmosphere of the Top Gear TV show studio. Regular features from the programme, including the Cool Wall and the Celebrity ‘Lap Times’ board, kept up to date in line with the show.
The current generation Kia Cee’d meanwhile remains on the market, with pricing currently starting at £14,405 for the hatchback or £16,000 for the Sportswagon.
Engines available in the latest Cee’d range includes a 99bhp 1.4-litre petrol unit, a 89bhp 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, a 1.6-litre GDI petrol with 128bhp and a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel producing 126bhp.
The most efficient engine in the Cee’d hatchback line-up is the 126bhp 1.6-litre diesel in the ‘1 Ecodynamics’ specification. This returns an average fuel economy of 76mpg and emits just 97g/km in CO2.
Standard equipment for the Cee’d is extensive and includes air conditioning, a CD/radio player, electric and heated door mirrors and front electric windows. The Kia Cee’d also comes with a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and, like all other new Kia cars, is supported with a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
