New Ford Mustang available to order during UEFA Champions
The first European models of the new Ford Mustang, including 130 units for the UK, will be made available to order during this year’s UEFA Champions League final. The football match takes place on May 24th 2014.
Ford is a current sponsor of the UEFA Champions League and for this year’s final the manufacturer is offering motorists in Britain and the rest of Europe a special and long-awaited opportunity.
The Ford Mustang is set to launch in the UK and other European markets in right-hand drive from early 2015. Considering the worldwide fame which the Mustang name boasts, demand in Europe is sure to be very high.
The last time Ford officially sold the Mustang in the UK was over 40 years ago. Next year will mark the first ever time the Mustang has been sold in right-hand drive in this market.
This year’s Champions League final is being hosted in Lisbon and from the moment the match kicks off (7.45pm in the UK), Ford will make the first 500 units for Europe available to reserve.
How to order the new Ford Mustang
Motorists interested in making an order can do so from Ford’s official website, where they can register their details for an opportunity to purchase one of the first 500 units. The Mustang will be available to order in both two-door fastback and convertible bodystyles. The hard-top fastback model is finished in a Race Red paint job while the convertible is coated in a Magnetic Silver finish.
There are two petrol engines to choose from, either a 2.3-litre Ecoboost producing 305bhp or a feistier 5.0-litre V8 producing 420bhp. Standard equipment includes satellite navigation, heated and ventilated seats and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Those who manage to place their Mustang order during the Champions League final will receive a ‘special package’ and a limited-edition certificate.
A spokesman for Ford of Europe, Roelant de Waard, commented: “The arrival of the new Ford Mustang in Europe is an event that deserves the biggest possible stage,
“We hope that making the first models available to order from the start of the final will ensure a reach which matches the significance.”
The 2014 Champions League final is anticipated to attract a European-wide audience of 70 million football fans and 165 million people worldwide.
Ford has sponsored the UEFA Champions League since 1992. From this summer, however, Nissan will take over as the official automotive partner of the biggest football competition in Europe.
