Since January 2011 the South Korean car brand Kia has been official lead sponsor for Surrey County Cricket Club. This sponsorship has given Kia exclusive naming rights to the historic ground, now known as The Kia Oval, and primary shirt sponsors for the Club.
The latest County Championship which Surrey County Cricket Club competes in started earlier this month, and throughout the season Kia will be supporting the team with two Sorento SUVs. They are being loaned to the Club’s coach, Graham Ford, and the captain Graeme Smith.
The Sorento should enable the Club’s coach and captain easy and convenient travel to training and matches.
The President and CEO of Kia Motors UK, Paul Philpott, said: “We already have strong links to cricket, with our long-term sponsorship of Surrey CCC and The Kia Oval, we are delighted to now be able to supply cars for Graeme Smith and Graham Ford, who are only within the UK during the Surrey CCC season.
“We wish the team all the best for their season ahead and will be cheering their promotion efforts."
The mid-sized Sorento is Kia’s flagship SUV and an all-round highly practical car which sits above the smaller Sportage crossover in the company’s range. The seven-seater comes available with all-wheel drive, a 194bhp 2.2-litre CRDi diesel and a choice of six speed manual or automatic transmissions.
With the standard manual gearbox the Kia Sorento covers the zero to 60mph sprint time in just 9.4 seconds and CO2 emissions are recorded at 155g/km.
Kia’s Sorento also comes in five different specification levels, with prices starting at £24,700.
Trim levels start with ‘KX-1’ and followed by ‘KX-2’, ‘KX-2 Sat-Nav’ and ‘KX-3’. Standard equipment includes a leather trimmed steering wheel, a range of media gadgets and up to 1,530 litres of interior storage space.
Higher trim levels in the Kia Sorento range, like the KX-2 feature a 4.3-inch LCD colour touch-screen with reversing sensors. The KX-2 Sat-Nav trim adds a seven inch touch-screen navigation system with European mapping.
The KX-3 trim meanwhile boasts more luxury equipment such as a panoramic roof, satellite navigation and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Kia Sorento also comes with a pioneering seven-year warranty.
A new generation Kia Sorento is currently in the works, and will reportedly be revealed to the public for the first time this October at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
