Citroen reveals luxury saloon concept

The concept is a new derivative of the DS 5LS saloon which was created to target Asian markets, including particularly China.

While it’s currently uncertain whether the DS 5LS or this R derivative could reach European markets, it does at least hint at the future design direction for the Citroen brand.

The unveiling of the DS 5LS R follows closely in the footsteps of another DS model reveal, the DS3 Cabrio Racing which is available in the UK.

The Citroen DS model range is now well established in the UK market offering a selection of modern and trendy styled cars boasting efficient engines. Other DS models currently available include the DS3 hatchback, DS4 hatchback and the DS5 executive car.

The DS 5LS R follows a similar design approach to other DS models on sale now but there are also some new features which give the car an all-round sportier look.

One of the most noticeable unique features is the wide side stripes in matt carbon grey on the front doors. The ‘R’ signature features extensively around the exterior of the concept – on the bonnet, at the rear and on the sides of the car.

Lightweight carbon fibre components are used extensively on the Citroen DS 5LS R including on the side signature trim, which extends across the top of the side windows to the boot, cutting through the rear quarter panel with a subtly drawn shark fin.

Then there’s the ‘DS Wings’ grille at the front, finished in carbon grey dark chrome. The DS5 5LS R also sports radical 20-inch wheels which are carbon-coloured to match the polished aluminium on the exterior. Completing the exterior design is the Carmine Red paint job.

Inside the interior of the DS 5LS R has an evidently strong emphasis on luxury. Featuring extensive use of leather around the cabin, the seats, dashboard, upper door panels and central armrest are finished with pearl top-stitching in Carmine Red.

Also found inside are real carbon fibre inserts on the steering wheel, door panels and door handles, together with Carmine Red touches for the air vents.

Members of the public will get their first chance to see DS 5LS R and other Citroens at the Beijing Motor Show when it’s hosted between the 20th and 29th April 2014.
