Having updated its compact Sportage crossover for the start of 2014, Kia is now turning attentions towards its larger Sorento. The Sorento received a subtle facelift back in 2012 but now a new-generation model is planned, likely to be launched in early 2015.
After revealing its new hybrid technology at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Kia could possibly offer such efficient powertrains for the next Sorento range. Pricing for the new Kia Sorento could range between £20,000 and £28,000.
The current Kia Sorento is priced from £17,495 to £27,395. The Kia SUV comes with a 194bhp 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine and a host of emission-reducing features. With this particular diesel the SUV can travel from a standstill to 60mph in just 9.4 seconds.
The most recent updates for the Kia Sorento included a new grille, new headlamps plus new wheels and bumpers amongst a raft of exterior updates. Kia also made the Sorento sportier looking and more precise in handling, by lowering it 10mm. Kia also gave the latest Sorento revised suspension and brakes and stronger contour lines along the body.
There are four trim levels on offer – ‘KX-1’, ‘KX-2’, ‘KX-2 Sat-Nav’ and ‘KX-3’.
Stand features of the KX-1 trim level include leather trimmed steering wheel, a range of media gadgets and up to 1,530 litres of interior storage space.
The KX-2 trim adds ain-sensing front wipers, a leather-trimmed instrument panel and a 4.3-inch LCD colour touch-screen with reversing sensors. The KX-2 Sat-Nav trim adds a seven inch touch-screen navigation system with European mapping.
The top of the range KX-3 trim level adds more luxury equipment features including a panoramic roof, satellite navigation and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Kia Sorento is also available with a 1.7-litre CRDi diesel plus a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel with 148bhp.
Whichever engine you choose for a current Sorento there’s a choice between front and four-wheel drive powertrain set-ups included. The Sorento is also available with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, as well as seven-seats as standard.
Although it delivers an impressive power output, the Kia Sorento can still deliver nearly 50mpg. Alongside this powertrain, all models are fitted with all-wheel-drive as standard.
Kia also offer a seven-year warranty for its Sorento models and owners can fix their running costs, three-years servicing and MOT for just £379.
