The recently launched Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe range is comprised of three specifications at the moment. The most powerful model is the R Coupe, priced at £85,000. It uses a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and boasting 488bhp.
This powertrain gives the F-TYPE R Coupe a zero to 60mph sprint time of just four seconds, plus a top speed of 186mph.
A new Club Sport derivative of the F-TYPE R Coupe could use a similar powertrain however the car itself is rumoured to be 200kg lighter. It could also produce extra power, since the same supercharged V8 features on the Jaguar XFR-S but delivers 542bhp rather than 488bhp.
The new Club Sport could take inspiration from the Jaguar Project 7, a one-off performance-focused concept based on the F-TYPE convertible.
While the Project 7 is reminiscent in appearance to the F-TYPE, there are major differences such as a new front splitter, side skirts and an aggressive rear diffuser, all made of lightweight carbon-fibre.
Some of these body kit features, designed to improve aerodynamic performance and overall handling, could be passed on to the F-TYPE Coupe Club Sport.
The more potent engine and lighter body could give the Club Sport a zero to 60mph sprint time of under 3.5 seconds. Such an impressive figure would mean the new F-TYPE Coupe derivative could rival modern-day supercars for sheer speed.
While few details have been confirmed at the moment, all the hints heard from Jaguar suggest that a more extreme F-TYPE is high up the list of priorities.
The standard F-TYPE Coupe starts at £51,235 and features 407 litres of boot space.
The basic model also uses a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine with 335bhp, less potent then the supercharged V8 but still feisty in the Coupe. It can go from a standstill to 60mph in 5.1 seconds and hit up to 161mph.
The mid-range F-TYPE S also uses a 3.0-litre V6 engine but power output is increased to 375bhp. With this the Coupe can go from a standstill to 60mph in just 4.8 seconds and travel up to 171mph.
Standard kit across the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe range includes engine stop-start technology, satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
