The 23-year-old Olympic hopeful has been given a Juke model in the range-topping ‘Tekna’ trim and with a 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine. This car should prove a helpful boost for Jess Varnish while she prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games hosted in Rio di Janeiro.
As part of her preparation, Varnish travels thousands of miles a year in the course of her training and has to carry a haul of cycling equipment including her bike and helmet.
Commenting on her new acquisition, Varnish said: “As an athlete you need to make your life as easy as possible outside of training and so having a reliable and comfortable car is really beneficial.
“I really believe that having a car you can count on takes the pressure off and allows you to perform to the best of your ability."
Jess has received the Juke model thanks to Nissan’s current partnership with the Olympics TeamGB and the ParalympicsGB team.
Earlier this year Nissan announced a new campaign called #UniteAndExcite. It aims to help young talented athletes in Britain prepare themselves in the run up to the 2016 Olympics.
While Jess has received her new Juke model, a Nissan GT-R supercar has also just been given to Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy. The retired Olympic gold medal-winning athlete has recently been confirmed as Nissan’s new brand ambassador. Hoy is also serving as a mentor for Nissan’s #UniteAndExcite campaign.
During the #UniteAndExcite campaign, fans will be able to access exclusive behind-the-scenes access to athletes’ stories and news of how Nissan’s innovative technology could improve performance.
The Nissan Juke is currently priced from £17,095 in the well-kitted Tekna trim level. With the 1.5-litre dCi diesel the Juke costs £18,490 and delivers an output of 104bhp plus CO2 emissions of just 104g/km.
Standard equipment for the current Tekna-trim Juke includes climate control, cruise control, parking sensors, satellite navigation and leather seat trim.
Earlier this month a facelifted update for the Nissan Juke was revealed during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. This updated version of the mini-SUV will go on sale in the UK from this June.
It incorporates many exterior updates, with changes to the headlamps, front grille and new body colour options are added. Inside the updated Juke boasts 100 litres of extra boot space and a smarter designed cabin with all of Nissan’s latest driving gadgets.
