Currently priced from just £8,995, the Dacia Duster is an incredibly affordable entry in the SUV segment. After a successful first year in the UK market in 2013, the Dacia model has evidently struck a chord with budget-conscious new and used car buyers up and down the country.
Its success however is owed to more besides its appealing low pricing range. The Dacia Duster scores strongly in practicality and reliability, and offers fuel-efficient engines and low running costs.Last year the Dacia Duster was named as CarBuyer’s Car of the Year award winner, as well as the Best Small SUV.
The editor-in-chief of CarBuyer, Steve Fowler, commented: "Last year’s Carbuyer Car of the Year continues to impress and remains Carbuyer’s favourite small SUV for 2014. No wonder it’s such a sales success: we love its no-nonsense, value-packed approach. It’s great to drive and hugely practical, too – it makes you wonder why you would need to pay more for an SUV."
The Dacia Duster range includes three trim levels starting with ‘Access’ and followed with ‘Ambiance’ and ‘Laureate’. The range-topping Laureate trim is a particularly popular choice for customers. It includes equipment such as heated electric door mirrors, a leather steering wheel, Bluetooth and an upgraded interior trim.
The ‘Access’ models use a 104bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine which can be used on a two-wheel or four-wheel drive powertrain. The petrol engine can deliver up to 39.8mpg on the combined fuel cycle.
Higher trim level Duster cars use a more efficient 109bhp 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine, also available on two or four-wheel drive set-ups. The Duster’s diesel engine can return a combined fuel economy of up to 56.5mpg when utilising two-wheel drive.
The Duster has a roomy cabin and huge boot to round off its tempting package plus the bonus of rugged off-road capability in its 4×4 guises.
The Dacia Duster also offers five seats and a braked towing capacity of up to 1,200kg. Inside the Duster has maximum boot space of 1,636 litres with the rear seats folded. This total is over 100 litres more compared to a current generation Nissan Qashqai.
Pricing for the Dacia Duster in the mid-level Ambiance trim starts at £11,595 and the Laureate trim begins from £13,195.
