As well as receiving double the demand for the model, Ford revealed that almost one third of all orders placed across Europe came from the UK.
Since going on sale at the end of March 2013, over 3,000 Fiesta ST orders have been placed in the UK – a sales rate well ahead of the company’s projected 5,000-per-year target.
The American car marque has also stated that Europe-wide demand for the Fiesta ST hot hatch is being led by UK customers. In total, 56 per cent of all dealer reservations across the continent are made up from customers in the UK.
As a result of such high demand, production of the Ford Fiesta ST will increase by 15 per cent, to 60 vehicles per day, in order to keep up with growing demand.
Looking into the high demand further, the Fiesta ST’s unique ‘Pearlescent Molten Orange’ and ‘Spirit Blue’ metallic paint colours have been requested on 45 per cent of orders. In addition, 56 per cent of Fiesta ST buyers have opted for higher specification ST2 models.
Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe, commented: "The customer and media reaction to the Fiesta ST has been extraordinary – it’s really become an instant classic and orders have been extremely strong."
He added: "We are doing what we can to increase production and try to meet demand."Since its UK launch earlier this year, the Ford Fiesta ST has scooped numerous awards and received nationwide acclaim. Awards include the Auto Express ‘Hot Hatch of the Year 2013’.
