May has been a good month for the company, posting good sales and market share figures. Vauxhall will also be optimistic for the future, with the upcoming releases of the VXR8 and the face-lifted Insignia.
According to the figures recently released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), a total of 20,898 new Vauxhall cars were registered in dealerships throughout the UK in May this year.
This represents a 3.07 per cent increase over May 2012’s figure, when Vauxhall had sold a lower 20,275 new models.
In addition, the British automobile manufacturer managed to obtain 11.60 per cent of the UK car market in May 2013, besting close rivals Volkswagen, Audi, BMW and Nissan.
Looking at the year-to-date figures, a total of 107,770 new Vauxhall models have been registered in UK-wide dealerships since the start of this year.
Last year, Vauxhall had managed to sell a lower 94,598 new models, which represents a 13.92 per cent change. The company will no doubt be happy with this jump in yearly sales.
Furthermore, Vauxhall has so far claimed 11.36 per cent of the UK car market, by marque, besting last May’s figure of 10.90 per cent.
This means that Vauxhall has continued to perform better than aforementioned rivals such as Volkswagen, Nissan, Audi and BMW.
Helping Vauxhall’s cause for increased sales and market share figures was its best-selling Corsa supermini.
In May, the Vauxhall Corsa was the UK’s third best-selling vehicle, with 6,634 new Corsa models registered in UK dealerships. A total of 37,279 new Corsa models have been bought in the UK so far this year, cementing the cars third-place spot on the yearly best-selling list.
Also making the two best-selling lists, for monthly and year-to-date sales, was Vauxhall’s popular small family car: the Astra.
The Vauxhall Astra took fifth place on the monthly best-selling list, in May 2013, by registering 5,211 models sold. Furthermore, the model edged itself into a higher fourth spot on the best-selling models in the year-to-date list with 26,657 new Astra models registered in UK dealerships so far this year.
Vauxhall will be looking to the upcoming face-lifted Insignia model to provide an extra sales boost to its best-selling Corsa and Astra models.
The updated Insignia large family car will be released in the Autumn and will no doubt provide that extra push for sales that Vauxhall constantly strive for.
