Fiat 500 surpasses one million units

The latest Fiat 500 is marketed to 83 countries around the world. As well being built in Tychy, Fiat also builds the 500 at a Mexican factory in Toluca, which brings the car’s total production figure to around 1.1 million.

The landmark one millionth unit of the Fiat 500 is a performance-focused Abarth specification, painted in white and featuring a 135bhp 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol unit.

Emphasising the wide range of customisations available with the Fiat 500, the production unit 999,999 is a red ‘S’ version with a 95bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine. The Fiat 500 unit number 1,000,001 is a light blue painted Fiat 500C convertible in Lounge trim specification, and utilises a 69bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine.

This major achievement for the Fiat 500 has been achieved at the Tychy plant in the space of just five years and nine months since the retro hatchback was launched. Today the Fiat 500 has acquired over 40 international motoring awards and acquired over 325,000 fans on the car’s official Facebook page.

Earlier in 2013 the latest Fiat 500 range was revamped with the arrival of new body colours, a spectacular new specification called Colour Therapy and other minor styling updates.

The Fiat 500 is currently sold as a three-door hatchback, convertible and since this year in a larger five-door MPV form called the Fiat 500L.

For later this year Fiat plans to expand the 500 range even further with the arrival of the crossover-inspired 500 Trekking and the SUV-style 500X, the latter of which will use a four-wheel drive powertrain.

The standard Fiat 500 is currently sold in many different trim levels including Pop, Sport and Lounge.

Engine options include an award-winning 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol unit with 85bhp. This previously became the first petrol engine in the UK to offer sub-100g/km of CO2 emissions and has spawned an entire range due to its large success.

Prices for the Fiat 500 currently start at £9,960. New and used examples of this popular city car can be found now at Perrys Fiat Dealerships based in Amersham, Aylesbury and Portsmouth.
