The prestigious annual Fleet News awards are overseen by a panel of judges made up of fleet industry experts and senior members of the Fleet News editorial group. For this year the panel has decided to hand its award for the Best All-Round 4×4 to the experienced Land Rover Discovery 4.
On its decision the judges commented: “Brand and status lifts the Discovery above its rivals. It’s just as capable off-road and on, offers seven seats and has strong running cost figures, especially for service and repair No longer does Land Rover suffer from reliability issues. With best-in-class residuals, the Discovery ticks all the fleet boxes”.
The rugged Land Rover Discovery 4 SUV is famed for its sophisticated driver settings which culminate into Land Rover’s trademark All-Terrain powertrain.
The four-wheel drive All-Terrain system is capable of adapting power to the four individual wheels to improve traction in a variety of conditions including sand, snow and uneven terrain.
The Land Rover Discovery 4 also comes with technology to improve its towing ability including Towing Assist which will automatically detect the presence of a trailer and then monitors its behaviour, applying the brakes if the trailer loses stability.
Other support features on the Discovery 4 include a reversing aid, an optional surround camera system and a touch screen showing the trajectory of trailer and vehicle.
Installed with a 256bhp 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine, the Land Rover Discovery 4 is also an excellent towing car, capable of pulling weights up to 3,500kg.
When it’s not towing the Discovery 4 can cover the 0-60mph sprint in 8.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 112mph. The official combined fuel economy figure for this SUV meanwhile is 32.1mpg and CO2 emissions are recorded at 230g/km.
