Brand new Jaguar XJR will have "supercar performance"

The bold and powerful five-door luxury car becomes the new flagship model for the Jaguar range, and it will make its first public appearance at the 2013 New York Auto Show which starts on 29 March.

Under the bonnet the new Jaguar XJR has an enhanced 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol unit with 542bhp. This is the same unit that features in the upcoming Jaguar XFR-S sport saloon, another five-door performance car adding to the Jaguar range this year.

With this particular engine unit the XFR-S is able to deliver a 0-60mph sprint time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 186mph. Impressively the XJR will likely deliver performance figures not far off those of the XFR-S. Jaguar says the new XJR saloon will deliver “supercar performance”.

With its bespoke chassis and new aerodynamic upgrades, Jaguar describes the XJR as the most focused, agile and responsive version of the saloon ever made.

The Global Brand Director for Jaguar, Adrian Hallmark, commented: “The new XJR epitomises the three pillars of technology, performance and contemporary design which the Jaguar brand stands for in the twenty-first century, while delivering new levels of dynamic ability in a luxury saloon”.

A single image published of the new XJR by Jaguar shows the performance model has some noticeably styling differences compared to the rest of the XJ range. Changes include the darkened mesh now surrounding the front grille and air intakes. The XJR also adds a front lip spoiler and some new touches of chrome trim.

Moving the XJR along is a set of low-profile tyres complete with large five-spoke alloy wheels.

Further details on the new Jaguar XJR will be revealed when the saloon breaks cover at this year’s New York Auto Show.

The current Jaguar XJ range is available for viewing and purchases now at Perrys Jaguar Dealerships over in Halifax and Huddersfield.
