It’s the sixth year in a row Fiat has been recognised for this feat, one certified from research provided by the automotive industry data supplier Jato Dynamics.
Research data from Jato reveals that in the past six years, Fiat has reduced its average CO2 emissions by about 13 per cent from 137.3g/km to 119.8g/km.
This reduced figure is significantly lower than the average target set by the European Union for 2015, where manufacturers selling in the continent will need to average 130g/km in CO2 emissions across their product range.
Fiat has managed to make strides in reducing its CO2 impact thanks to its exciting developments in engine technology over the course of the previous year.
Technologies introduced by Fiat over the course of last year included the new 0.9-litre TwinAir Turbo Natural Power engine, an 80bhp bi-fuel two-cylinder engine.
It combines the ecological advantages of CNG fuel with the power and driving fun of TwinAir technology. The Fiat Panda was the first car in the world to be equipped with this innovative engine which guarantees reduced CO2 levels of just 86g/km.
Fiat Group has been Europe’s leading producer of Original Equipment Manufacturer natural gas vehicles for more than 15 years. It offers the largest eco-friendly bi-fuel powered range, with the ability to satisfy the needs of a wide variety of private and commercial consumers. From 1997 to 2012, Fiat sold more than 500,000 Natural Power cars and commercial vehicles.
Amidst its current range Fiat has also bolstered its CO2 reduction programme by introducing the popular TwinAir specifications to almost all of its current models on sale. Popular models including the Fiat Panda, the Fiat 500 and the Fiat Punto are all available with 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol engines.
This unit allows all associated models to keep their CO2 emission outputs below 100g/km, making the TwinAir specifications exempt from UK Road Tax.
UK motorists can view and purchase new models from Fiat’s TwinAir range right now from Perrys Fiat Dealerships in Amersham, Aylesbury and Portsmouth.
