Ford gains more UK market share in February

According to the latest official figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Ford managed to sell 10,005 cars in February, which marks an 11.7 per cent improvement upon last February’s figure of 8,957.

In addition, Ford managed to claim a market share of 14.99 per cent, the highest out of all of the car manufacturers selling cars in the UK. Again, this marks an improvement against last year’s market share in February, which was 14.48 per cent.

In the year to date, Ford has managed to shift a total of 29,645 models in the UK market, which has improved upon last February’s figure of 29,018, news which will undoubtedly be welcome by Ford.

Furthermore, in the year to date, Ford has managed to claim 14.09 per cent of the market with its sales. However, this figure was slightly higher at this point last year, when Ford had claimed 15.21 per cent of the market share by February 2012.

It will come as no surprise that Ford’s top selling models, as per usual, are the Focus and Fiesta vehicles. Sales of both of these best-selling cars were up, at 3,853 and 3,655 registrations respectively, when compared with last February’s figures.

There were also increased sales and shares for Ford’s Ka and C-MAX range, whilst the Ford B-MAX is already a key player in the market with 1,731 registrations for the year to date, which accounts for 23.4 per cent of sales in its segment.

Ford Britain’s managing director, Mark Ovenden, commented: ‘Ford is maintaining its sales discipline in a fiercely competitive market by driving up its share of more profitable retail sales.’

Ovenden further added: ‘The strategy is supported by the launches of award-winning vehicles and technologies and the unrivalled strength of our dealer network.

‘Already in 2013 we have seen the sales launches of the new Ford Fiesta range, the Ford Transit Custom and the Ford Kuga and there is more to come with the Ford Fiesta ST and further additions to our CV and SUV ranges.’
