Best family cars from the 2013 Geneva Motor Show

Amongst those companies attending Geneva are some of the biggest car brands which are amongst Perrys network of UK motoring dealerships.

At this year’s show there are several new family cars either recently launched or upcoming in Geneva, all looking to catch the attention of those motorists looking for the most practical selection available.

Here to round-up the pick of this bunch is our guide to the best family cars in attendance at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Citroen C3

The experienced C3 supermini has been given a recently announced refresh for 2013, comprised of a series of updates which should add extra premium quality to both the car’s exterior and interior.

One feature unchanged for this new Citroen C3 is the inclusion of its rather unique Zenith windscreen, which comes as standard. With this the C3 continues to provide brilliant visibility to the driver, as it is specially designed to increase the upward field of vision for front passengers by 80 degrees.

The Zenith screen also combines with ultra-slim pillars to give a panoramic view of the road ahead.

New styling features include the LED daytime running lights built into the bumpers and newly designed taillights and reflectors.

Engine options for the new Citroen C3 include a 68bhp 1.0-litre petrol unit, which is able to average 65.7mpg and emits just 99g/km in CO2.

There’s also a 1.6-litre e-HDi diesel with 70bhp is also available with CO2 emissions recorded at just 87g/km.

The current generation Citroen C3 is still available now from Perrys Citroen Dealerships in Barnsley, Huddersfield and Milton Keynes.

The Dacia Logan MCV was revealed to the public for the first time at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and it is set to become one of the most remarkably affordable new family estate cars on the market.

First orders for this model will begin in the UK during April 2013 and reports suggest the Logan MCV will only start from around £7,000 with higher-trim models priced closer to £11,000.

The boot of the Logan MCV offers 573 litres at minimum; however the rear seats can be folded down in a 60/40 split which will up the total load space to 1,518 litres.

The petrol engines include a 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit with 74bhp, and a 0.9-litre turbocharged unit with 89bhp. The latter returns a fuel economy of 56.5mpg and CO2 emissions are recorded at just 116g/km.

The diesel unit is a 1.5-litre engine with 89bhp and it will keep CO2 emissions to just 99g/km on the Logan MCV, as well as officially return 74.3mpg.

When it launches in Britain the Dacia Logan MCV will be available from Perrys Dacia Dealership found in Aylesbury.

Kia Carens

The new Kia Carens will be lower and sleeker than its predecessor, and the compact family MPV has been conceived around a curious ‘dynamic space’ theme.

Kia has also based the new Carens around the same platform as the highly rated Cee’d family car. Like other recent Kia models launched the Carens will also get an extra splice of life with a significant redesign sporting a cab-forward design, a lower roofline, a longer wheelbase and larger wheels.

Four engines will be available with the new Kia Carens. The choice includes a 1.7-litre diesel engine with either 113bhp or 134bhp, plus a 133bhp 1.6 GDI petrol engine. There’s also a 175bhp 2.0 GDI engine on offer with the new Carens.

The 2013 Kia Carens will be available later during the spring this year from Perrys Kia Dealerships found in Burnley, Preston and Rotherham.

Mazda6 Tourer

The 2013 Mazda6 family car range has already been launched in the UK market but that hasn’t stopped the Japanese car maker from promoting it to potential customers from across Europe by attending Geneva this year.

The stylish family car offers a spacious five-seater cabin plus a boot with 506 litres minimum loading capacity. This load capacity can be increased to up to 1,632 with the rear seats folded down.

Engines include a 2.0-litre petrol unit with 142bhp or 162bhp and a 2.2-litre diesel with 147bhp or 172bhp.

The most efficient choise is the 147bhp diesel which returns 64mpg and a CO2 emissions output of just 116g/km.

Standard equipment on the Mazda6 Tourer and saloon range includes a CD player, air conditioning and cruise control.

The 2013 Mazda6 range is available now from Perrys Mazda Dealerships based in Barnsley, Blackburn, Huddersfield, Portsmouth and Preston.

Nissan Note

For 2013 the new production-ready Nissan Note is no longer a mini-MPV style family car but has instead been transformed into a five-door hatchback which will direct rival the likes of the Ford Focus and the Vauxhall Astra.

The new Note took a lot of its design inspiration from the distinct Nissan Invitation concept demonstrated last year. The final product will be built here in the UK, at Nissan’s Sunderland production factory.

Engine options for the Nissan Note include a 79bhp 1.2-litre petrol unit and a supercharged of the same unit with 97bhp. There’s also a 1.5-litre diesel which like the 97bhp petrol unit emits less than 100g/km in CO2, while the 79bhp petrol emits 109g/km.

The Nissan Note will be sold in three trim levels at Perrys Nissan Dealership located in Blackburn.
