The original DS3 Racing was a bold-looking and fast-tuned version of the three-door hatchback, first revealed back during the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The hot hatch went on sale the following year under highly limited production, with just 200 units reaching the UK market.
It didn’t take long for the Citroen DS3 Racing to be sold out when it first hit the market in 2011, but now those who missed out will get another chance with a bold new version set to go on sale later on in 2013.
Citroen has opted to make an updated version of the DS3 Racing in commemoration of the manufacturer’s recent motorsport success.
Since 2004 Citroen has won eight Manufacturers’ titles in the World Rally Championship, while the team’s driver Sebastian Loeb along with his co-driver Daniel Elena have scooped the Drivers’ title on nine consecutive occasions.
This remarkable example of dominance in motorsport has inspired Citroen to return to its DS3 hot hatch once again. Citroen says the updated DS3 Racing will stay faithful to the specification’s ‘Racing spirit’, by making it more eye-catching with its matt black bodywork, complete with new matt gold colour for the roof and special graphics.
The new matt gold paint can also be seen on the rear spoiler, door mirrors, chevrons and front grille, and inside on the fascia strip and base of the gear lever.
The roof graphic is repeated on the dashboard and celebrates the sporting achievements of the Citroën World Rally Team since its inaugural win in 2001.
The 2013 Citroen DS3 Racing also features new 3D-effect rear lights and 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels painted in matt gold and black.
Other details including engines and pricing will likely be confirmed when the new DS3 Racing is uncovered next week. The previous version of the hot hatch was priced from £24,290 and used a 207bhp 1.6-litre THP petrol engine linked to a six-speed manual gearbox.
This powertrain allowed the 2011 DS3 Racing to cover the 0-60mph sprint in a time of 6.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 146mph.
The standard Citroen DS3 range is available right now from Perrys Citroen Dealerships found in Barnsley, Huddersfield and Milton Keynes.[YouTube:gKbbq1xF9Ig:BlockCentre]
