Compact and connected, the all-new EcoSport model will come equipped with a voice-activated in-car connectivity system, known as Ford SYNC, as well as SYNC Emergency Assistance, which makes an automatic call to the emergency services if the car has been involved in a serious accident.
In addition, the compact SUV will be one of the first vehicles produced by Ford to offer Ford SYNC AppLink in Europe. Ford SYNC AppLink enables the driver of the EcoSport to voice-control smartphone applications, without the need to their attention away from the road.
Paul Mascarenas, the chief technical officer and vice president of Ford’s ‘Research and Innovation’ division, commented: ‘We are entering the age of the connected car and debuting EcoSport at Mobile World Congress underlines just how important advanced vehicle technology is to customers and to Ford.’
Following the recent launch of the Ford Kuga, the EcoSport will be the second SUV to be launched in Ford’s ever-expanding European range when it goes on sale towards the end of the year.
In addition, Ford also plans to bring the next generation Ford Edge to Europe, which is a larger and more premium utility vehicle that is popular in the United States and other markets.
The new compact EcoSport is build on Ford’s global small car platform and the iconic car manufacturers will be hoping that customers can see that the SUV delivers the agility and fuel efficiency of a small family car, whilst offering the flexibility, spaciousness, high driving position and ‘go anywhere’ appeal of an SUV.
Mascarenas further said: ‘The role of the car is evolving. Customers want to be able to safely enjoy the same level of connectivity in their cars as they would do at home, and SYNC AppLink enables them to do just that.’
He added: ‘By maximising the potential of apps, Ford can offer customers a class-leading range of smartphone application capabilities while on the move.’
The all-new Ford EcoSport will be available with Ford’s innovative 1.0-litre ‘EcoBoost’ engine and a 1.5-litre petrol engine that was crowned ‘International Engine of the Year’. Rounding off the list is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that is expected to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency.
Potential customers will be able to order the new compact SUV at Perrys Ford Dealerships found in Aylesbury and High Wycombe.
