This has been revealed by the Fiat brand chief, Gianluca Italia, who has revealed to reporters plans for extending the number of different models for the popular retro-styled 500 range.
Italia commented: “We are looking at a full family of vehicles. We know that the 500 is often bought by parents for their children but the loyalty to the car is low, around 60 per cent of drivers move onto something bigger”.
He added: “We want to be able to offer them an extended 500 range. The 500 has been a very big success and the model still has a long way to go and we have a number of new developments. We are looking at many other variants”.
The Fiat 500L, a new MPV conversion of the city car, is set to go on sale in the UK next month available in five or seven-door specifications. On the 500L, Italia commented: “For the first time the 500 now has five-doors, it is a full five-seater and there is plenty of room for luggage. The car might be B-segment in size but it has the interior space of a family car”.
New specifications set to follow the 500L include the crossover-type 500 Trekking and the even more rugged conversion called the 500X, which will utilise a four-wheel drive powertrain.
The Fiat 500L itself will start pricing from £14,990, which applies to two trim levels, called Pop Star and Easy, when using the basic 1.4-litre petrol engine with 94bhp. While the Pop Star and Easy models are priced the same the standard equipment they offer is different
Beyond that there is one extra trim level which sits top of the range called the Lounge trim, starting from £16,390.
The basic petrol option is joined by three more engine options, including a frugal 104bhp 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol unit, an 84bhp 1.3-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre diesel with 104bhp.
Each unit for the 500L is linked to a six-speed manual transmission as standard, although the 1.3-litre diesel is also available with a semi-automatic gearbox.
Standard equipment on all Fiat 500L models includes Bluetooth, cruise control and a radio which is operated by a five inch touchscreen.
Equipment found on the Pop Star trim includes a body-coloured dashboard and alloy wheels. The Easy trim meanwhile brings rear electric windows, rear parking sensors and a fixed glass roof to the 500L.
The Fiat 500L is available to order from Perrys Fiat Dealerships located in Amersham, Aylesbury and Portsmouth.
