Ford Ecosport to roll into Geneva for 2013

The compact SUV was previously displayed last September during the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new Ford car is expected to challenge similar-sized rivals including the Nissan Juke and upcoming examples such as the Chevrolet Trax and the Peugeot 2008. Like the Peugeot rival, the Ecosport is built around the wheelbase of a supermini.

The Ecosport takes the base of the Ford Fiesta to turn it into a compact yet at the same time tall and bulky-designed traveller.

Styling features on the EcoSport include a large front grille complemented by slim, detailed headlights. The SUV is also equipped with Ford SYNC in-car connectivity which allows drivers to make calls and select music from BlueTooth/USB-connected devices.

Ford SYNC also adds in Emergency Assistance, which contacts emergency services should there ever be an accident. Other driver assist technologies include an anti-lock brake system, Electronic Stability Program, and Hill Launch Assist.

The engine selection for the Ford EcoSport will include an impressively frugal 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, with outputs of either 99bhp or 118bhp available.

This same engine unit won the prestigious honour of International Engine of the Year earlier this year, and is already available on current Ford models including the Focus, the Fiesta, the C-Max and the B-Max.

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost will also be included in the 2013 Ford Mondeo range which launches towards the end of this year.

Other engine units which will reportedly reach the Ford EcoSport include a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. It’s also been rumoured that the mini-SUV will also get a 94bhp 1.6-litre diesel mated to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

So far only two-wheel drive powertrains have been confirmed for the Ford EcoSport, but the prospect of four-wheel drive models being added to the mini-SUV’s range has been left open for possibility.

The Ford Ecosport could reach the UK market in late 2013, with prices starting in a region of just below £14,000.

The current Ford model range can be found now from Perrys Ford Dealerships based in Aylesbury and High Wycombe.
