This has been revealed from the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. The organisation reveals that in January 2013, Fiat registered 3,351 new cars in the UK market. This is a substantial increase compared to the same month last year, when the Italian manufacturer sold 2,886 new cars to British customers.
Comparing Fiat’s performance in these two months, the company has also started this year with a larger share of the UK market. Fiat took 2.33 per cent of the market share in January 2013, up from 2.24 per cent taken back in January 2012.
This encouraging news for Fiat comes at the start of a year in which the company is targeting an overall sales increase thanks to the arrival and first deliveries of new models, including the Fiat 500L and the Fiat Panda 4×4.
The Fiat 500L, available as a five or seven-door family car, will begin first UK deliveries in March 2013. Starting from £14,990, the Fiat 500L will be sold in up to three trim levels starting with Pop Star and followed by Easy and Lounge.
Engine options for the 500L include a 94bhp 1.4-litre petrol unit, a frugal 104bhp 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol unit, an 84bhp 1.3-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre diesel with 104bhp.
Standard equipment for all 500L models includes Bluetooth, cruise control and a radio which is operated by a five inch touchscreen.
The Fiat Panda 4×4 meanwhile is a rugged, four-wheel driven conversion of the current generation city car model. The Panda’s new four-wheel drive set-up should provide extra grip and traction in tricky weather conditions and should be popular with UK buyers who have famously embraced 4×4 cars.
The Panda 4×4 will feature the same 0.9-litre TwinAir petrol engine also found on the upcoming 500L. On the Panda 4×4 the TwinAir offers CO2 emissions of just 114g/km and a combined fuel economy of 57.6mpg.
The new Panda 4×4 also offers a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit, which emits 125g/km in CO2 and returns 60.1mpg.
As another incentive for potential Fiat buyers, last month Perrys Dealerships cut the price of the Fiat 500C by up to £1,200.
Prices for the compact and stylish convertible normally start from around £12,000 but these have been lowered significantly as part of the latest Perrys Fiat deals. The price-cut Fiat 500C and other current Fiat models are available now from Perrys Fiat Dealerships located in Amersham, Aylesbury and Portsmouth.
