Perry’s Motability Scheme

In the past, disabled drivers did not have much choice when it came to choosing a car to fit their needs, as most cars were cramped, inaccessible for some and did not feature some well-needed equipment.

However, in today’s age, there is a new lease of life for disabled drivers called Motability.

Motability is the leading car scheme for those with disabilities and here at Perrys, we are a Premier Partner of Motability – providing an award winning, friendly and professional service.

Perrys have a proven track record with Motability customers, as we have dedicated Motability specialists available on-site across our sales and service departments. As they are so easy to find, there is no excuse for not paying them a visit!

If you are in receipt of the higher rate mobility allowance, you will automatically qualify for the scheme. You can also nominate another driver if you yourself don’t drive.

At Perrys, we have a wide range of vehicles that are available on the Motability Scheme, covering most of the UK’s most popular vehicle manufacturers. Such manufacturers include Ford, Peugeot and Vauxhall, amongst many others.

Most of the vehicles are offered with ‘Nil Advance Payment’. In addition, vehicles under the Motability Scheme are taxed, insured and ready to be driven away.

Furthermore, each vehicle on the scheme is serviced and maintained for three years, which includes three years breakdown and glass cover. You can be sure that everything will be covered if you opt for a Perrys Motability Scheme vehicle.

For ease of access to our sites, disabled parking is availed on-site, with wheelchair access to all of our showrooms. Home visits are also available if you find yourself unable to make your way to one of our dealerships.

The Schemes on offer

Motability is always developing and refining its available schemes, in order to provide the best possible service. Working closely with Perrys, as well as other dealers, Motability is constantly trying to find new ways to improve the experience of their customers.

Currently, we at Perrys offer two Motability schemes, which will cover all of your needs and economical wants.

The first scheme is a Contract Hire Scheme, for new cars, which consists of a three year hire lease, payable in monthly instalments.

For the regular monthly payments, the following are covered for your vehicle: comprehensive insurance, road tax, free replacement tyres, replacement of windscreens or windows, RAC breakdown cover, maintenance, servicing and repairs.

In addition to all of the great coverage available, a potential customer of the Motability Scheme will be eligible for £250 if the car is returned in good condition, after three years, without any insurance claims. Who doesn’t like free money?

Perrys also offer, in unison with Motability, a hire purchase scheme – which offers contracts between two and five years to potential customers.

This could be utilised in order to save on having to adapt to a different car after three years or in order to allow a greater number of drivers on your car’s insurance.

In order to be eligible for the Motability Scheme, you must meet certain criterion. If you receive either Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement (WPMS), you will be able to apply for the Motability Scheme.

In addition, you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining when you apply. If you meet all of the criteria, you will be able to apply for the scheme as a driver or passenger, as well as the parent or carer of a child aged three or over.

If you are disabled but not eligible for the Motability Scheme, you might be able to receive a discount on one of Perry’s cars as a blue badge holder. You will need to check this when you call to establish your eligibility.

Adapting a vehicle

If you need special adaptations of vehicles to drive safely, or have a comfy ride as a passenger, Motability provides a list of all available models that are suitable to be adapted to your requirements.

While Motability provide the available models that can be adapted, Perrys can help you source the car of your choice; working closely with you to adapt the car to your individual needs.

Some examples of possible adaptations that can be provided through the Motability Scheme include a Push/Pull hand control or a radial accelerator to use instead of pedals. Also, a steering wheel ‘ball’ can be fitted for ease-of-driving, as well as wheelchair storage, infrared controls and an easy-release hand brake.

In addition, some adaptations are available at no extra cost through the Motability Managed Adaptations Programme. In order to take advantage of these offers, you will need to contact your local Perrys dealership for more details.

Available cars

There is a huge array of cars that are available through the Motability Scheme, with models from the aforementioned manufacturers Ford, Peugeot and Vauxhall. Rest assured that there will always be a car for you, no matter what size or how powerful.

Two of the most popular choices of cars through the Scheme are the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta, both classed as two of the best-selling cars in the UK.

Furthermore, smaller cars tend to have lower Advance Payments, lower running costs and lower CO2 emissions than larger vehicles, so these two Ford motors would be ideal to hire through the Scheme.

Some UK-built vehicles, such as the ever-popular Vauxhall Astra and the Vauxhall Corsa, are also favourites amongst drivers utilising the Motability Scheme. Perrys offer most Astra models will no advance payments; you will only need to pay a weekly rental fee.

If you prefer to hire a larger car, which would offer more storage space for wheelchairs and extra room for adaptations, then you will be able to drive away with a stylish Citroen C3 Picasso or the cavernous Peugeot Partner Tepee.

For those drivers who would prefer a ‘green’ or eco car, there are numerous low-CO2-emitting options available on the scheme.

For example, the Fiat Punto MultiAir features an efficient, CO2-saving engine, whereas the Vauxhall vehicles: Corsa and Adam offer ‘ecoFLEX’ models which, too, lower CO2 emissions.
