New Kia pro_cee'd and cee'd GT to debut at Geneva

Set to be Kia’s most performance-based models ever produced, the manufacturer has pencilled in a 5 March reveal for the cars.

The much-anticipated models have been designed in Europe, and will both feature distinctive LED daytime running lights, dual-exhaust pipes, Recaro seating, 18-inch alloy wheels and red brake calipers.

Both models now also include a bolder, more athletic styling than ever before. Complementing the cars’ new design is a new turbocharged 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine on both cars, which is able to produce 201bhp.

Available in manual transmission, the new engine allows the GT models to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in as little as 7.9 seconds.

The pro_cee’d GT is expected to go on sale mid-2013, with the cee’d GT expected to hit the market toward the end of the year. Prices and full specifications for the GT models will be unveiled closer to the cars’ launch.

Kia has also recently announced that it’ll be unveiling what’s likely to be a rival to the Nissan Juke at Geneva. Kia has released some teaser images of the racy concept, which it has brandished ‘mischievous’ in design.

The Kia cee’d is the manufacturer’s first European-designed and built car, and has been a runaway success for the South Korean giant.

The models helped Kia break full-year performance records in 2012, with the manufacturer selling 57,736 cars over the period – up 21.4 per cent on 2011’s figures.

The current-generation Kia cee’d is also an award-winner; its most recent accolade being named Northern Car of the Year for the second year in a row by the Northern Group of Motoring Writers.

The Kia cee’d is available with a wide range of engine options, including 1.4 and 1.6-litre diesel and petrol variants. CO2 emissions on the cee’d can also be as low as 97g/km, which offers fantastic savings on road tax and more.

The economical family car is available on a seven-year warranty, and comes with a number of fantastic features including air-conditioning, Bluetooth, front fog lights, USB/AUX ports, front electric windows, projection headlights and much more besides.

A new Kia cee’d is currently available from £13,495.
