Following the start of deliveries of the facelifted for 2013 Fiesta supermini, Ford has now this month revealed launch and pricing details for its new compact hot hatch.
Like its larger counterpart, the Ford Focus ST launched last year, the Fiesta ST is targeted at driving enthusiasts but will still offer an element of practicality, allowing it to challenge other modern hot hatches in the market area.
The Fiesta ST will be sold in two trim levels; the first is called ST1 and carries the £16,995 price tag which kicks off the range. This starting price is set to make the Fiesta ST over £1,000 cheaper then rivals also due in 2013 including the Peugeot 208 GTi and the Renaultsport Clio 200.
The second and high-lever trim is the ST2 model, which will cost Britain’s motorists £17,995.
Standard equipment with the ST1 trim includes cloth Recaro seats; 17″ alloy wheels and Ford’s exciting SYNC technology which allows the driver the ability to make calls and both receive and send text messages using voice commands only.
The ST2 trim Fiesta adds extra luxury kit, including leather seat trim, climate control and keyless functions for both entry and the engine start button.
For this new hot hatch, the manufacturer has taken the standard Ford Fiesta in its latest guise, and grabbed inspiration from the Fiesta RS rallying car, to deliver a more tuned and sporty chassis model, with a lower ride height and a distinct new body complete with a rear spoiler.
Tested vigorously at the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany, the 2013 Ford Fiesta ST is driven by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, similar to that found in many current Ford models but with an upturned output of 180bhp.
This engine is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, and it allows the Fiesta ST to cover the 0-62mph sprint in 6.9 seconds, while the top speed is recorded at 136mph.
At the same time though the new hot hatch is also about a fifth more economical than the previous Fiesta ST. The three-door returns approximately 40mpg and records a respectable 138g/km in CO2 emissions.
The 2013 Ford Fiesta ST will be available to UK motorists in a few months from Perrys Ford Dealerships, which are based in Aylesbury and High Wycombe.
