Chevrolet lets loose the 2014 V8 Corvette Stingray

This is already demonstrated with models like the Camaro muscle car, and has now been emphasised again this week with the reveal of the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the latest big, brash and powerful muscle car provided by Chevrolet.

Arguably the most famous product name of all from Chevrolet, the Corvette is set to return to markets once again with a vastly updated model that should offer a more unique and eccentric, but at the same time worthwhile alternative against other modern sports cars today.

After lengthy speculation and hype the new Corvette’s new design was fully revealed for the first time earlier this week during a presentation at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The car sports an even sharper and more aggressive look then previous Corvette models, with features like the large black bonnet vent and the row of four large exhaust pipes at the rear.

Alongside the new look Chevrolet also announced the Corvette will also return the classic ‘Stingray’ name, which was last used by the manufacturer for an earlier generation model back in 1976.

The engine in the 2014 Corvette is brand-new from Chevrolet; it’s a 450bhp 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine connected to either a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters or a seven-speed manual transmission.

Behind the wheel of the new Corvette, the driver can adjust the muscle car towards five different driving modes, which alter the throttle response, steering feel and the set-level of traction control. The settings include “Eco” for more efficient running, “Weather” for roads with less grip and “Sport” and “Track” to push the Corvette to its mighty potential.

Other major changes for the new Corvette includes the use of a lighter aluminium chassis, and other lighter components including a carbon fibre bonnet, plus detachable roof panels. As a result the new Corvette is over 60kg lighter than its predecessor, a change that should greatly benefit the car’s handling and shorten braking distances.

Like with previous Corvettes, the muscle car will be available to buy as a left-hand drive import only. You can search for used models, or the current new model Chevrolet UK range from Perrys Chevrolet Dealerships based in Dover and Rotherham.
