After receiving over 100 votes the poll, which features numerous modern and highly-competitive hot hatches, has been easily topped by the Ford Focus RS, with more than a third of the total votes.
The Ford Focus RS has fended off several highly-rated contenders in the Perrys poll, including the Citroen DS3 Racing, the Vauxhall Astra VXR and the Renaultsport Clio 200.
Though the Focus RS is not currently amongst the current Ford model range, it evidently remains a popular entry in the hot hatch market. The last version of the Ford Focus RS up until now was built in a limited production run between 2009 and 2010 and was based on the second generation Focus in its final facelifted form before it was replaced.
Since early 2011 the third generation Ford Focus range has been on sale across Britain, including within Perrys Ford Dealerships which are based in Aylesbury and High Wycombe.
Though an RS specification of the latest Ford Focus has yet to be released, Ford did launch a hot hatch specification earlier in 2012. The latest Ford Focus ST delivers 250bhp from a 2.0-litre petrol engine and is available in showrooms right now with prices starting at £21,995.
Though few details have been revealed, a new Focus RS based on the current generation hatchback is widely expected based on reports from across the media. The new Focus RS is expected in European markets somewhere between late 2013 and early 2014.
The new hot hatch could feature a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with as much as 350bhp connected to a manual gearbox. While the latest Focus ST covers the 0-60mph sprint in 6.5 seconds, the new RS could reportedly do the same sprint in an incredible time below five seconds.
