Is the Alfa Romeo 4C finally going to arrive in 2013? What Car? magazine certainly thinks so after it included the car in its shortlist for the Readers Award 2012.
To see the 4c go up against the likes of the £1m McLaren F1 and superb BMW i3 electric car should give us all hope the most exciting car of the Geneva Motor Show all the way back in 2011 is finally set to arrive.
The concept car was the undoubted star of the show back then and the two-seat sports car has not lost any of its allure since.
The mid-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car is now expected to go on sale later next year after a full production version is rumoured to appear in Geneva two years after its original unveiling.
This is at least a year after the car, which could cost as little as £45,000, was originally expected to arrive on UK shores, but it promises to be worth the weight.
The Alfa Romeo 4C coupe weights less than 1,000kg thanks to the use of carbon fibre and weight-saving technology. Throw in an excellent turbocharged petrol engine and it promises to be one of the best drivers cars of the year.
The engine delivers 230bhp and the 4C can accelerate from 0-62mph in less than five seconds.
Not only that but the Alfa Romeo 4C features typical stunning Alfa Romeo design. The look is reminiscent of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the most recent supercar built by the brand and one that was built in extremely limited numbers.
The curvy coupe will also spawn convertible versions for UK customers and Alfa Romeo plans to sell over 18,000 of them over the course of the car’s lifetime – that is no limited edition.
Expect even more performance in special editions as well, making Alfa Romeo Perrys dealerships some of the most exciting in the country over the next few years.
