The automotive safety body tested a number of vans with the Transit Custom scoring high marks for its adult and child protection features.
Euro NCAP gave the van 84 per cent for adult occupant safety, praising the Transit Custom’s stable passenger compartment during the frontal impact test. Euro NCAP also highlighted that the Transit Custom achieved maximum points during side barrier tests.
The van also scored maximum points for its protection of 18-month and three-year-old infants during front and side impacts, confirming it as one of the safest vans on the market. The van scored 90 per cent overall for child occupant protection.
Euro NCAP was testing the safety credentials of vans, with more people choosing them over MPVs for personal or commercial purposes.
“If you have a family with a lot of kids and are tempted to buy such a vehicle, please be aware that they often do not offer the latest state of the art in vehicle safety,” warned Dr. Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP.
But he also pointed out that safety features in the van market were still ‘at an immature stage’ and expressed his confidence that most models will drastically improve their safety features over the coming years.
But people investing in a new Ford Transit Custom will be delighted with the news that it’s one of the safest vans ever produced.
The Ford Transit Custom Van is currently International Van of the Year 2013, and provides outstanding fuel economy thanks to its amazing range of ECOnetic technologies.
A new Ford Transit Custom is available from £18,316.
