Best of 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show

This week the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show was hosted and featured many of today’s biggest car manufacturers from around the globe including some of the big brands on offer from Perrys nationwide dealerships.

A huge host of new and upcoming models were present at this week’s motor show, varying from low-emission electric cars and hybrids to high-powered supercars. Here are just several highlights which you could pick from a Perrys Dealership in the near future.

Chevrolet Spark EV

An all-electric powered version of the Chevrolet Spark city car made its global public debut during this year’s LA Motor Show.

A main highlight of course is that the five-door model swaps a conventional petrol engine for a battery-powered electric motor. Significantly though, it also boasts a lot of new onboard technology including two seven-inch colour LCD screens which will display a lot of vehicle information to the driver.

Another highlight is the new MyLink radio technology which comes standard, and the Spark EV will also be compatible with Apple phone Siri voice control technology, making it one of the first cars to achieve the latter.

The Chevrolet Spark EV could hit UK showrooms by the end of 2013, or possibly during 2014 at the latest.

Fiat 500e

Five years after the latest generation Fiat 500 first launched nationwide, an electric-powered version of the popular retro city car has been revealed in Los Angeles.

Named the Fiat 500e, the new electric supermini also sports some exterior and component changes compared to the standard car, not just including the bright new orange and white paintjob.

Low-rolling resistance tyres, a new contrasting front bumper and low-slung side skirts are also introduced with the 500e. The electric supermini is expected to go on sale in America during 2013, and it could reach UK showrooms in the same year or possibly by 2014.

Fiat 500L Trekking

Another Fiat shown during the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show is this new version of the 500L mini-MPV.

It’s called the Fiat 500L Trekking is a more rugged version of the family car, sporting more rough and tumble body styling and a new front-wheel drive system which is better suited for driving on treacherous roads or terrain.

The new exterior body kit moulds are made of plastic cadding, while the interior gets a distinct black and brown finish.

Standard equipment on the 500L Trekking, which goes on sale in mid-2013, will include Fiat’s Uconnect entertainment computer, which supports Bluetooth and voice commands.

Pricing for this updated model is expected to start from around £17,000.

Jaguar XFR-S

The hot new Jaguar XFR-S is a striking new performance saloon which should prove a serious rival to established competitors such as the BMW M5 and the Audi RS6.

Standing out with its French Blue Racing paintjob and optional rear spoiler, the XFR-S is simply the fastest and most powerful Jaguar saloon to ever reach the production line.

It uses a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, similar to that found on the latest Jaguar XFR and XJ Supersport, but the output is increased from 503bhp to 542bhp.

Ford Fiesta ST

The hotly anticipated 2013 Ford Fiesta ST made its long awaited American debut during the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show, while UK motorists can look forward to getting one during the middle of next year.

The supermini comes with an 180bhp 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine which allows it to clear 62mph in less than seven seconds, before reaching a top speed of 136mph.
