The Italian manufacturer was named the best van manufacturer at the annual awards, which took place in the plush surroundings of the Emirates Stadium in London, home to Arsenal Football Club.
Fiat was awarded the title because of its engine technology used across its van range including its range of MultiJet diesel engines, a former winner of the International Engine of the Year award.
The MultiJet engines, now in their second generation, reduce CO2 emissions from the Fiat van range and cut fuel economy drastically by using more efficient engine technology.
In the compact Fiat Doblo van the 1.6-litre MultiJet delivers around 130g/km of CO2 emissions, while larger engines in the likes of the Ducato and the Fiorino large panel van ensure Fiat vans are some of the most frugal in the UK.
Fiat’s engine range also ensures all new Fiat vans meet strict Euro 5 emissions standard and avoid £100-per-day charges for travelling in London’s Low Emissions Zone (LEZ).
Coupled with the likes of stop-start systems to reduce fuel use, Fiat’s vans were named the 14th winner of the prestigious green award.
“In terms of producing very efficient engines in light commercial vehicles, Fiat Professional has found something quite special. Add to that the technology to assist the driver and it’s obvious why it is the 2012 GreenFleet LCV Manufacturer of the Year,” said Colin Boyton, Marketing Manager, GreenFleet.
Driver technology includes eco:Drive software available fleet operators. The software measures the van’s mileage and eco-driving performance and helps businesses keep track of fleet costs and inform drivers of more efficient ways to drive.
The Fiat van range includes the car-based Fiat Punto van, the Fiat Doblo, Fiat Scudo Fiat Ducato and Fiat Fiorino vans.
