The standard version of the latest Panda family car went on sale across UK showrooms during January 2012. The Fiat Panda is a popular addition to the UK family car market, possibly thanks in part to the fact it has a famous customer in Top Gear presenter James May.
The standard model range launched with a front-wheel drive powertrain only, but now for 2013 the hatchback will receive a tougher-looking four-wheel drive version.
Both specifications of the Fiat Panda 4×4 were present at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. One features a 74bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet II diesel engine, the other uses an 84bhp 0.9-litre TwinAir turbocharged petrol unit.
Both engines are connected to a six-speed gearbox with a special low-range first gear, especially suited for driving on low grip surfaces including different types of off-road terrain.
The Panda 4×4 also features uprated suspension and of course a permanent four-wheel drive system. The new powertrain features a torque-on-demand system applied by an electronically controlled coupling.
On the exterior Fiat has updated the Panda’s styling with aluminium inserts on the front and rear bumpers, as well as new underbody protection. This all gives the Panda a slightly stockier and tougher look which complements the internal 4×4 off-road updates.
Standard equipment on the Fiat Panda 4×4 will include 15″ alloy wheels, electric rear view mirrors, climate control and a CD/MP3 player. Prices for the Panda 4×4 are likely to start from around £12,000.
The standard Fiat Panda is on the market now at Perrys Fiat Dealerships located in Amersham, Aylesbury and Portsmouth. Prices for the hatchback start at £8,900.
