Peugeot 208 GTi – Paris Motor Show 2012

Potential customers will be able to see the new hot hatch for real when the GTi appears at this week’s 2012 Paris Motor Show. The car has been hotly anticipated since the initial concept of the 208 GTi was presented at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Now as well as confirming its production, Peugeot have today revealed that a highly exclusive Limited Edition version of the hot hatch will arrive to the UK market.

The Limited Edition model will actually arrive to the UK in 2013 just before the standard model, which is expected next May.Only 29 units of the Limited Edition are coming to these shores, one for each year since the UK launch of the Peugeot 205 GTi hot hatch back in 1984.

Peugeot is keen to promote the 208 GTi as a type of spiritual successor to the 205 GTi, which has established a cult status as one of the earliest yet best hot hatches ever made.

The Limited Edition 208 GTi will bring some unique styling features including a pearlescent white paint job and 17″ Onyx black alloy wheels. Each model will be numbered individually from 01 to 29.

Although the starting price has yet to be confirmed for the 208 GTi range, the Limited Edition model will be priced at £20,495.Looking to the standard 208 GTi, it adds a distinct and sporty body kit compared to the standard supermini and throws in a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

This unit delivers 197bhp and is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox. It allows the hot hatch to cover the 0-62mph in less than seven seconds.

The Peugeot 208 GTi range will be available to buy at Perrys Peugeot Dealerships.

The standard Peugeot 208 supermini is already available to buy now in the UK with prices starting from £9,995.
