The Galaxy beat competition from the Toyota Prius Plus and Volkswagen Sharan to win the award from the esteemed automotive journal, which classed the Galaxy as the best MPV for chauffeuring and private hire.
“The Ford Galaxy is now such a well-sorted car that it’s actually difficult to find significant faults in it,” says Mark Bursa, editor of Professional Driver magazine and chairman of the judging panel. The criteria for the Professional Driver Awards is notoriously rigorous, with each shortlisted car required to be subjected to a full-day’s evaluation.
The quality of the transmission, due to the Galaxy’s DSG automatic gearbox, was lauded by the judging panel. In addition, the judges were also pleased with the MPV’s more upmarket looks, thanks to the facelift Ford gave the Galaxy in 2010.
Other factors for the Galaxy’s success include the car’s features, its driveability, low on-the-road noise and vibration. The Volkswagen Sharan won the award in 2011, but the all-round competence of the Ford Galaxy Titanium X saw it triumph this year.
The Ford Galaxy MPV is a seven-seater that’s closely related to the S-Max. However, it’s a lot more affordable to run and is incredibly fun to drive. Its main rival on the market is the Vauxhall Zafira, which didn’t make the judges’ top three for the award.
Available from £18,565, the Vauxhall Zafira isn’t as versatile as the Ford Galaxy, but is more cost-effective to run in the long-term. The Ford Galaxy MPV is available from £24,955.
The award-winning Ford Galaxy MPV is available to buy from Perrys Ford dealerships.
