Now in its sixth year, the Eco-Rally hosts a range of cars featuring some of the world’s most efficient eco-technologies. The Rally then sees the cars compete in a 65-mile marathon.
Ford brought three of its fuel efficient Focus hatchback engines to the show, including the award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol, as well as a full electric powertrain Focus model.
Its appearance at this year’s Eco-Rally marked a great feat in the American brands advancements in efficient engine technology, with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost being a particularly significant addition to the Focus’s engine line-up.
Andreas Schamel, managing director of Ford’s European Research Center, said:
“Ford is developing a portfolio of high-technology, low-CO2 powertrains that offer customers affordable choice and excellent fuel-efficiency in vehicles they want and value.
“The Ford Focus cars in the Eco-Rally demonstrate how a choice of low CO2 powertrains can be provided within a single model range.”
The three Focus models featured were the 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 1.6-litre Duratorq diesel and the full electric Focus model.
The 1.0-litre EcoBoost emits just 114g/km, with the 1.6-litre diesel emitting as low as 88g/km, which may surprise some because of its size.
Although the electric Ford Focus model is not available in the UK, it may hint at future UK models powered by the alternative fuel.
Schamel added: “The Focus Electric shows our commitment to providing a full suite of minimum CO2 technologies, which will be supplemented by hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles that Ford is launching in Europe.”
Ford Focus prices start from just £13,995.
Ford vehicles are available from Perrys Ford dealerships.
