Kia Optima review

The Kia Optima seemed to come out of nowhere when it was released in the UK market, as the Korean brand has made a name for itself with its small car range – which includes the Picanto city car and Rio supermini.

Although this was the case, the Optima saloon is a welcome addition to the UK saloon segment as Kia continues to broaden its market appeal. The Kia Optima offers stiff competition to the likes of the popular Ford Mondeo and the Vauxhall Insignia.

As well as offering the usual executive feel of a saloon model, the Optima also offers a frugal 1.7-litre turbodiesel powertrain that emits just 128g/km and returns up to 57.6mpg. However, the Optima still has a meaty power output of 134bhp.
