Europe's best selling cars of 2012 revealed

The research, from the automotive industry analysts Jato Dynamics, reveals that the Ford Fiesta supermini is currently Europe’s second best selling car in 2012 to date after the month of June.

The Ford Fiesta has recorded 171,605 sales in Europe so far, including the 59,570 registrations in the UK this year to date.

These figures make the Fiesta currently the highest selling car in the UK market, and sits only behind the Volkswagen Golf hatchback in overall European sales.

The top ten list for Europe’s best selling cars in 2012 to date also features the Vauxhall Corsa supermini. The Fiesta-rival is currently the fourth best seller in Europe, recording 149,553 sales to date in the continent.

The Vauxhall Corsa is also currently the second best selling car in the UK market in 2012 to date, with 47,147 registrations.

The top ten for Europe also includes the Ford Focus, which is fifth in the year to date with 139,109 sales. The family car is followed closely by the Renault Clio supermini and the Vauxhall Astra family car, which are sixth and seventh respectively.

The Clio has registered 130,638 sales, while the Astra has made 129,774 sales in the year to date.

Renault can be excited about the future of its new car sales as it prepares to announce the fourth generation of the popular Renault Clio.

The latest iteration of the supermini will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in September before its launch in 2013.

Elsewhere, the larger Renault Megane also makes it into the top ten, placing ninth in the year to date sales with 111,191 registrations to date.
