The Kia Rio has proved itself once again as it adds the Power Car of the Year accolade to its trophy cabinet.
The Power Awards are held annually by Car Dealer Magazine and it this year it saw more than 1,000 dealers vote from 200 different companies and suppliers. After being put through the voting sieve, the Kia Rio supermini came out on top as the prestigious Power Car of the Year.
Although it was the Kia Rio that claimed the award, the praise goes to the entire Kia range as it has evidently matured over the years and evolved from a niche South Korean brand, into one of the most lucrative manufacturers on the car market.
Over the years Kia’s range has been led by smaller vehicles, including the Rio supermini and the Picanto city car. But the brand has expanded its market appeal as it has released new models, including the Sportage SUV back in 2010, and the new Optima saloon earlier this year.
Editorial Director for the magazine, James Baggott said: “We say it time and time again, but Kia really is changing brand perceptions. It all began in earnest in 2010 with the Sportage, and since then the momentum hasn’t stopped.”
The overall practical and stylish qualities of the Rio model helped it take the stage for Kia, as well as its frugal 1.1-litre diesel engine that delivers up to 88.3mpg.
