The Ford Fiesta was the top selling car in June as it knocked the Vauxhall Corsa back into second place.
The Ford Fiesta took the top sales spot in the June market as it sold 9,063 units, beating competitors like the Volkswagen Polo and the Vauxhall Corsa.
In May this year it seemed the Fiesta was showing signs of struggle as the Corsa outsold it, but now the Fiesta is back on top as it beat the Corsa by 263 units.
As the Fiesta and Corsa are both superminis and very similarly priced, the popularity and therefore sales figures of the two are undeniably close.
The popularity of the Ford Fiesta may have been boosted by the recent success of its older brother, the Ford Focus, which has recently won awards for its new frugal EcoBoost powertrain.
The Focus claimed third place in the June top sellers list with 6,937 units sold, beating the Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf. The new Ford Focus EcoBoost engine is a 1.0-litre petrol that offers CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km and these qualities helped it win 2012 “International Engine of the Year”.
The success of this engine may have highlighted the availability of the Fiesta’s frugal 1.6-litre ECOnetic engine in its range that emits just 87g/km and returns a combined fuel consumption of 78.5mpg.
The stylish Fiat 500 supermini stayed strong as it retained a place in the top sellers list with 3,324 units sold. The Nissan Qashqai also stayed strong with 4,775 units sold and as it remains the only SUV in the top sellers list.
New Ford Fiesta prices start from just £9,795.
