The car will be the top-performance version of the upcoming new standard Clio, which is due to hit UK showrooms during early 2012. The Renaultsport Clio will only be sold in a five-door hatchback bodystyle.
The hot hatch was test driven through the famous Goodwood hill climb circuit in a heavily disguised form. Motorists however will be able to see the Renualtsport Clio in September 2012 when it appears at the Paris Motor Show.
Looking past the disguise paintwork, it’s still noticeable that the new Renaultsport Clio has some aggressive new styling features.
The new front grille is vastly different to the one found on the previous Clio, while the protruding side skirts, rear diffuser and twin exhaust pipes help accomplish the hot hatch’s sporty looks.
Overall the new Renaultsport Clio appears to have taken some styling cues from the radical concept supercar Renault revealed earlier this year, the Alpine A 110-50.
Rumours suggest the new Renaultsport Clio will use a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an estimated 210bhp.
That would make the new car more powerful than the previous Renaultsport Clio, which delivered 198bhp from its 2.0-litre petrol engine.
A Cup specification of the Renaultsport Clio is also likely, which would feature less kit to reduced weight and firmer suspension, to improve handling even further.
The new Renaultsport Clio is expected to hit Perry’s showroom in Aylesbury during spring 2013, with prices starting at about £18,000.
