Which? reveals the best car maker of 2012

Kia, which builds small cars, SUVs and people carriers for the UK, took the Best Car Manufacturer for 2012 title after only appearing on the shortlist for the first time.

Kia was praised for its ‘superb new range of cars’, high build quality and the value for money of cars such as the new Kia Rio supermini, new Kia Cee’d hatchback and the award-winning Kia Sportage crossover SUV.

The Which? recommendation added: “Kia’s new Rio, Sorento and Picanto have all impressed in our Test Lab, while the new Cee’d and Optima get the thumbs-up from our initial road tests. Compared to where it was just five years ago, we feel that Kia is the most improved car brand around.”

Kia finished ahead of BMW, Hyundai, Skoda and Toyota to take the top award, something it says it was ‘absolutely delighted’ to win.

Kia is an increasingly popular car maker in the UK and offers a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty – one of the longest in the industry.

Its range of cars include tiny three-door city cars such as the new 2012 Kia Picanto, family cars such as the Kia Rio and Kia Cee’d and stylish crossovers including the Kia Sportage.

Kia also sells the quirky, SUV-styled Kia Soul MPV and the Kia Optima saloon, an affordable but premium-feeling large family or business car.

Kia cars are sold in the UK at Perrys Kia of Burnley, Perrys Kia of Preston and Perrys Kia of Rotherham dealerships.
