Alfa Romeo 4C wins design award

The motoring exhibition, which parades both historic and future cars, gave the Alfa Romeo this award ahead of competition that included cars by Aston Martin and Lexus.

The Alfa 4C sports car is a two-seater coupe which was first unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. It will be turned into a production model at Maserati’s car plant in Italy, where 2,500 units will be produced annually. The 4C is expected to reach the UK market during 2013, with pricing targeted to start from below £40,000.

On the market the 4C will likely challenge other sports car rivals such as the Lotus Evora and the BMW Z4.

Reports suggest the 4C will feature a carbon fibre body which will make the car weigh less then 900kg in total. It’s also expected to have a rear-wheel drive powertrain featuring a 230bhp 1.8-litre petrol engine, which will allow the 4C to cover the 0-62mph sprint in less than five seconds.
