The study by JD Power and What Car? asked nearly 18,000 car owners around the UK how they rate their car, with the Sportage crossover SUV rated the best car to own.
The cars were assessed in many different aspects of car ownership and given a percentage for each section, including cost of ownership, performance, comfort and design.
The Kia Sportage scored an overall rating of 83.8 per cent for all categories, beating executive models like the Jaguar XF and the Mercedes Benz E-Class.
The Kia Sportage is a stylish crossover that occupies Kia’s compact SUV slot in the range.
As well as being able to function as a family car with up to 1,353-litres of storage space and features like iPod compatibility, it can also handle itself off-road with four wheel drive and a powerful 161bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine.
An efficient 1.7-litre CRDi diesel is also offered which with the help of Kia’s stop & go system emits just 135g/km and returns up to 54.3mpg.
Standard entry level features of the Kia Sportage include air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, hill start assist and tinted privacy glass.
The Kia Sportage starts from just £17,295.
