The first thing you need to think about is the trim level. Luckily, Kia has introduced a simply numbering system covering ‘1’ to ‘4’, with ‘1’ being the least-equipped and ‘4’ being the best.

Kia Cee’d ‘1’ models get air conditioning, steering wheel-mounted controls, front electric windows and cooled glovebox.

It also includes daytime running lights, remote central locking, an iPod-compatible radio/CD system, USB port and Bluetooth connectivity.

Kia Cee’d ‘2’ adds 16″ alloy wheels, folding heated door mirrors, leather trim on the steering wheel, gear stick and handbrake, some chrome highlights, reverse sensors and cruise control.

Stepping up to Kia Cee’d ‘3’ models, you gain rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, privacy glass, de-icing front wipers, climate control and a seven-inch touch screen with sat-nav.

Range-topping Kia Cee’d ‘4’ models addblack leather front seats, 17″ alloys, a heated steering wheel, electronic parking brake, stop-start, a premium console with colour display.

There is also a ‘4 Tech’ option adding a panoramic sunroof, parallel parking system and Xenon headlamps.

Choose the 1.6-litre diesel (CRDi) engine with a six-speed manual ISG gearbox in ‘1’ specification to get road tax-free levels of CO2 emissions.

However, the same model in ‘2’ offers 100g/km of CO2 emissions, while the 1.4-litre diesel delivers 109g/km.

Even the most polluting model, the 1.4-litre petrol with six-speed manual gearbox, emits just 143g/km of CO2 emissions however, so you should be safe in the knowledge you will be driving a particularly frugal car.
