The Ford Focus hatchback also picked up the top award in the ‘most popular small family car category’ a year after it was launched in the UK.
The new 2012 Ford Focus is the best-selling small family car of 2012 and third overall in the sales charts, cementing its place as the best small car in the country.
Dan Harrison, editor of honestjohn.co.uk, said: “It’s no surprise to see the Ford Focus claiming the honestjohn.co.uk Car of the Year award for 2012.
“Ford is a hugely popular brand on the site and from the time the Focus was first reviewed, it’s regularly topped our monthly chart as the most searched for car and it shows no sign of slowing down.”
The success of the new Ford Focus can be attributed to its low starting price of just £14,000, modern design and vast amounts of equipment.
The Ford Focus will be one of the first Ford cars to offer voice recognition, emergency assistance and new technology that allows the car to parallel park itself without any driver input.
The technology-packed Ford Focus is only available in hatchback body style but a new estate, named the new Ford Focus ST, will go on sale later in the year.
The Ford Focus is available with a selection of petrol and diesel engines and the most efficient diesel, named Econetic, offers road tax-free levels of CO2 emissions and upwards of 74mpg.
New Ford Focus prices start from £14,000 for the entry-level Studio models. Higher trim levels include Edge, Zetec, Titanium, Zetec S and range-topping Titanium X, with each offering increasingly generous levels of equipment.
The new 2012 Ford Focus is available now from Perrys Ford dealerships.
