Seat Ibiza hot hatch set for European debut

The gathering of the best hot hatch cars across Europe for the GTI Treffen event in Austria will include a European debut for the power-packed Ibiza hot hatch.

First revealed at the Beijing Motor Show, the new Seat Ibiza Cupra Concept has been decked out in bright yellow paintwork – the colour most often associated with the fastest cars in Seat’s range.

The Seat Ibiza Cupra Concept also comes with a large air intake, a more aerodynamic body, 17″ allot wheel and striking red brake callipers to separate it from the rest of the Seat Ibiza range.

Under the bonnet it packs in a 1.4-litre TSI engine delivering 180PS of power for more straight-line speed than any other Ibiza model in the range.

Taking its cues from the larger and more powerful Seat Leon Cupra R, the new Ibiza concept also comes with Cupra badging and sporting touches to the interior including upholstery and sports seats.

While the Seat Ibiza Cupra Concept is expected to become a production model on sale at Seat dealerships such as Perrys Seat of Aylesbury, it may not be the most eye-catching Seat car at the event.

The 120,000 visitors arriving for the 31st annual show will no doubt be drawn to the distinctive Seat Leon Super Copa, a 63,000-Euro race-ready car kitted out with roll cage, a 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 300PS and a striking grey and orange paint job.

The car is being sold in limited numbers – only 250 have been built so far – but brings a touch of WTCC style and performance to European roads.

It is a long way from the standard Seat Ibiza, a stylish supermini available in three- or five-door hatchback or estate (ST) versions.

New Seat Ibiza prices start from less than £10,000 for five-door versions.
