Niche magazine DieselCar has named the 2-2 coupe as the best sports car of 2012, the third year in succession the Peugeot RCZ has taken the top award.
Described as having the looks, performance and handling to be the best sports car in the UK, the Peugeot RCZ topped the charts despite increased competition this year.
DieselCar editor, Ian Robertson, commented on the RCZ, saying: “Its road-hugging stance, curvy shape and swoopy grooved top make it an instant head-swiveller. Performance defines a sports car, while styling delivers the wow factor. The RCZ has both in spades.”
The Peugeot RCZ, a cheaper but stylish option compared to the Audi TT, is most recognisable for its unique ‘double-bubble’ roof that dips in the middle and gives the car a more curved shape.
The Peugeot RCZ sports car also boasts aluminium roof arches, Peugeot’s traditional front end and plenty of equipment as standard alongside sound system, alloy wheels and a carbon roof as options.
Engines for the Peugeot RCZ include a 1.6-litre petrol in 156 or 200bhp variations and a 2.0-litre diesel delivering the range’s best fuel economy figure of 52.3mpg.
The new Peugeot RCZ is on sale now at Peugeot UK dealerships, where it goes up against the likes of the new Vauxhall Astra GTC, a three-door coupe based loosely on the Vauxhall Astra small family hatchback.
To compare Peugeot RCZ prices with those of the Vauxhall Astra GTC, the former is more expensive at around £21,000.
Vauxhall Astra GTC prices start from just £18,500, putting it below the Peugeot RCZ in terms of initial cost. The Vauxhall Astra GTC is available from Vauxhall UK dealerships.
