The small family hatchback and estate is one of the best-selling cars in the UK since the new 2012 Ford Focus was launched last year.
The new Ford Focus has now taken the best diesel family car title in the ‘medium’ section of the annual awards, beating the likes of the Volkswagen Golf in the process.
Judges of the awards praised the 1.6-litre diesel available with the new 2012 Ford Focus, citing CO2 emissions as low as 88g/km as reasons for its success.
All cars with CO2 emissions below 100g/km are eligible for free UK road tax and exemption from the London congestion charge. The best-performing Ford Focus also delivers improved fuel economy in the region of 80mpg.
To compare Vauxhall Astra running costs, the Ford Focus comes out on top. The Vauxhall Astra EcoFlex delivers 99g/km of CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 76.3mpg.
Standard Ford Focus prices start from just £14,000, less than the Vauxhall Astra. The Ford Focus Econetic model costs £17,750, again less compared to Vauxhall Astra prices of around £18,700 for its EcoFlex model.
Comparing Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra prices shows there is not much difference between the two best diesel family cars on sale today, however judges at DieselCar are sure of their choice for best diesel family car.
Editor, Ian Robertson, added: “Still the one to beat among mid-size family cars, the Ford Focus is simply the best in its class.”
Meanwhile, Ford says the new Econetic Focus will be the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid family car in Europe and revealed around half of all new 2012 Ford Focus sales were for the diesel versions.
In the UK, diesel cars have overtaken petrol cars at the most popular engine choice, particularly with business drivers and those looking to downsize to a more affordable model in terms of running costs.
The new 2012 Ford Focus, the best diesel family car in the UK according to DieselCar, is on sale now at Ford UK dealerships.
