The sporty hatchback, which is also available in estate, convertible and coupe body styles, has had a major revamp for 2012.
This includes a new front end incorporating LED lights, a new gloss black bumper complete with chrome highlights and new alloy wheel options.
Renault has also overhauled the interior of the popular Megane small family car with new leather options for higher trim levels, a new dashboard and more equipment.
A new entry-level Expression+ trim level includes Bluetooth, USB connectivity and a radio CD-player and front fog lights.
At the other end of the scale, the most expensive and equipment-packed car in the range, the Renault Megane GT-Line TomTom, now includes rear parking sensors, a parking camera and an upgraded sound system.
Under the bonnet a range of new engines promises to lower CO2 emissions and improve fuel economy over the outgoing units.
The three new engines each offer a stop-start system that turns the engine off when the car is stationary in traffic and instantly turns it on again when the accelerator is pressed.
The new engines include a 1.2-litre petrol engine offering 53.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 119g/km. It will be joined by two diesels; a 1.5-litre, 110bhp unit and 1.6-litre, 130bhp option.
The smaller of the diesels delivers the lowest running costs in the range. Co2 emissions are just 90g/km and fuel economy is 80.7mpg for the 1.5-litre diesel.
New 2012 Renault Megane hatchback prices start from £16,275 for the new, entry-level Expression+ model with the 1.6-litre petrol engine.
New Renault Megane Coupe models start from £16,775 and Renault Megane Sport Tourer, the estate version, starts from £17,075 at Renault UK dealerships.
